What is Balemoss ?

The raw material of any moss wall wall cladding is bale moss. Bale moss is nothing but fine forest moss in round or semi-circular form. The bale moss, or also called upholstered moss or ball moss, is a versatile decorative element for every season, because it provides a feel-good climate in its entire environment with its velvety, soft structure and calming effect. This rootless land plant has been around for over 400 million years. It is an integral part of Mother Nature and indispensable for it. In addition to many important properties for wildlife, this bale moss can absorb pollutants over the entire surface and thus filters fine dust from the air.

Where does ball moss come from?

The ball moss processed by the Moos•Moos Manufaktur comes from our own European forests. Collecting ball moss is more like a kind of “looking for mushrooms”. It is mainly represented in mixed forests that offer the optimal humidity and often hides under needles and foliage.

The beautiful upholstered moss must be collected sustainably and gently. This is only allowed in private forests. For this reason, only specially trained employees are allowed to take on this task. A maximum of 20-30 can be harvested from the found ball moss, so that it can regrow sufficiently and nature is spared.

Processing

After harvesting the wonderful forest moss, it has to be cleaned elaborately. This is done exclusively by hand in order not to destroy the moss in its shape and structure. It is very time-consuming lytime freed by hand from soil, needles and leaves.

After cleaning, the preparation takes place. This preparation with natural substances allows the ball moss to absorb moisture and release it again. Due to the salty natural substances, it no longer provides a habitat for animals or fungi.

Our in-house developed MOOS•MOOS puzzle system is ideal for the design of small and large areas. By simply stringing together the individual segments in the size 72 x 72 cm, every project, whether large or small, can be realized quickly and easily, even for laymen. In production, our experienced employees carefully select each and every bale of moss. It is then carefully and hand-crafted lyrify on the puzzle plate. Each segment is unique. No transitions are visible after the compilation! The result is a natural and varied structure that reflects the moss soil in the forest. For the completion of the segments, we offer the possibility to create a straight and clean finish with our corner or edge parts. These are fixed and mounted in the same system.
